Hydrodipping puts a pattern on a part that paint cannot reach and does it on every curve at once. At Big Wood Customs in Chesapeake VA we dip fairings covers wheels and trim for Hampton Roads riders who want something on their bike that nobody else has.
How Hydrodipping Actually Works
The pattern is printed on a film that floats on water. An activator softens it the part is lowered through it and the film wraps every contour as it goes. Curves recesses and edges all take the pattern evenly which is the whole point.
It is a finish not a sticker. Once it is rinsed and dried the pattern is bonded to the primer underneath and the clear coat over it is what you actually touch.

Preparation Decides The Result
Ninety percent of a dip is what happens before the part goes near the water. Stripping filling sanding and priming have to be right because the film shows every flaw underneath rather than hiding it.
We base coat to suit the pattern too. The same carbon weave film over a light base and a dark base gives two completely different results and choosing that is part of the job.
Patterns And Clear Coat
Carbon weave skulls camo woodgrain and flames are the ones we are asked for most but any printed film can be dipped. Bring an idea and we will tell you honestly how it will sit on the shape of your part.
The clear coat is what makes it last. We finish with a UV stable automotive clear so a Virginia summer does not yellow it and a wash does not dull it.
